A Journey with Infertility and Miscarriage

Hello Pineapple Tribe,

I’m Katherine Hobbs, a Christian, domestic engineer, infertility warrior, and pregnancy loss survivor. I met my husband Harlen while attending Brigham Young University – Idaho. Harlen and I were married in the Boise, Idaho Temple in 2015. We had always planned to have a family, but when we started trying to have kids in 2016, we had no idea the journey we truly began together. Since 2016, We’ve been on a journey through infertility, the birth of our daughter, an ectopic pregnancy, more infertility (due to polycystic ovary syndrome), a silent miscarriage, and most recently, our rainbow baby.

As Harlen and I navigated through infertility and the loss of my babies, I’ve often felt alone and forgotten. After I had my daughter in 2018, I realized how good it felt to open up about infertility. When I started to talk with friends about my experience with infertility and pregnancy loss, I found many common threads in our experiences that I think we should open up and talk about.

After we started trying for our second baby in 2020, I had no idea about our journey. First, we had an ectopic pregnancy (where the implantation occurs outside the uterus), followed by a year of infertility, and then a silent miscarriage. Both of these losses have been devastating and made me question my faith. But through these trials, I’ve found much strength from family, friends, and God.

As someone who has experienced both infertility and miscarriage firsthand, I want to share information stories (mine and yours) for those who are on similar journeys. As well as raise awareness to help others know how they can support us through these complex challenges.

Pineapples are both the symbol of infertility and friendship. Together, we can heal and support our friends going through infertility or pregnancy loss.

Welcome to the Pineapple Tribe.
